Hi everyone! Signal Service Dogs is open for business!
My name is Natasha Pinsent and I'm bringing my love of dogs and first hand knowledge of what it's like to live with a mental health illness, together, in the hopes of making life a little better!
Signal Service Dogs will provide an affordable and unique way for anyone, 14 years or older, suffering from a disability (mental and/or physical) that are of able mind and body, to have a service dog that will perform tasks specific to them and their needs.
It will be a 15 week course that will equip qualified clients with the knowledge and skills to train their own service dogs under Signal Service Dogs guidance. As well as training sessions, the course will cover everything from; dog behaviour, body language, Newfoundland and Labrador Laws, Health, Wellness and dealing with the public.
There will be classroom sessions, followed by an outing every fourth week to such places as; Hardware store, Supermarket, Mall, Park, or Restaurant to practice what is learned in class and apply it to real world scenarios.
This follows the same model that Buckeye Service Dogs (BSD) in Ohio, has used successfully since 2016! This is where I have been lucky enough to get my service dog training experience and in 2020 graduated from the BSD "Co-Train Instructors Academy"
